Speaker Johnson Meets With Trump To Push New Election Integrity Efforts

House Speaker Mike Johnson spoke with former President Donald Trump on Friday to promote a new electoral integrity initiative for the 2024 election.

Prime Minister Johnson met with President Trump at Mar-a-Lago and spoke about legislation focused on election integrity. During the press conference, the speaker announced legislation that would require individuals to prove they are American citizens before voting in federal elections.

“So what we’re going to do is introduce a law that says everyone who registers to vote in a federal election has to first prove that they’re an American citizen. You have to prove it. This is a new part of federal law, and it’s a very important part,” Johnson said. “Our bill establishes new safeguards, putting us on par with nearly every democracy around the world that also prohibits non-citizens from voting.”

Prime Minister Johnson said Friday that the bill would require states to remove noncitizens from their existing voter rolls.

Election integrity has become an important issue for Republicans, especially fans of the former president. With about eight months until the 2024 election, many key battleground states, including the ones that helped Biden get into the White House, have changed their voting procedures that infuriated Republicans in 2020, according to a Daily Caller analysis. It is expected that many will continue to be adopted in 2024. . (Related: ‘They’re miles away’: Despite ‘election integrity’ hype, Republicans could enter legal buzzsaw in 2024)

Since Laura Trump became co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), she has continued to promote the party’s commitment to election integrity in a variety of media outlets. RNC officials previously told the Daily Caller that the party has filed about 78 lawsuits in 23 states.

The RNC has recently filed multiple lawsuits in Michigan and Nevada over alleged irregularities in the states’ voter rolls.

Johnson said at a news conference that in the 23 states he has traveled to since being elected speaker of the House, the first topic Americans have asked him about is election integrity.

“That’s why House Republicans are going to take action. I’m here today to announce, along with President Trump, that we will do everything in our power to ensure fair and free elections in our country. We are a constitutional republic. Without it, we have nothing. It’s the foundation of our country, and we owe it to the American people,” Johnson said.

Prior to the meeting, the former president’s senior adviser Said CNN reported that President Trump and Prime Minister Johnson will discuss and “draw attention” to state proposals and lawsuits that would give non-citizens the right to vote.Sources said the meeting between the two leaders was reportedly Johnson’s idea. Said CNN.

“I would like to demand that our borders be closed because millions of people are entering our country. [of] “We’re seeing an influx of people at a level that no one is reporting and no one is talking about,” President Trump said, emphasizing the need for the bill ahead of Prime Minister Johnson’s remarks.
