House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) is scheduled to meet with former President Trump at his Mar-a-Lago mansion on Friday, along with Trump ally Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Louisiana). Georgia) faces a threat to its chairmanship.
Mr. Johnson and Mr. Trump are already at loggerheads over whether the House of Representatives should pass $60 billion in additional aid to Ukraine, but Mr. It has refused to take a vote for months.
President Trump has previously said he would end the war within 24 hours if re-elected, while also touting that he would turn the cost of arms transfers to Ukraine into loans.
President Trump also encouraged Republican lawmakers to successfully “kill” the FISA reauthorization that Johnson supported. The Speaker is poised to try again to pass the bill in the House.

Meanwhile, Greene drafted a resolution earlier this month to force the House to vote no confidence in the speaker. Greene blasted Johnson for negotiating a spending bill with Democrats, ignoring the Republican Party’s internal rule that requires 72 hours for a vote on a bill.
She is also adamantly opposed to further aid to Ukraine. Ms. Green and Mr. Johnson met on Wednesday, but she said Mr. Green remained dissatisfied with the speaker’s handling of some issues.

Still, Trump is expected to support the leadership of Johnson, who defended former President Johnson during his two impeachment trials.
Indeed, Friday’s meeting is being billed as a “major announcement on election integrity” and promoting legislation to prevent non-citizens from voting, but no further details have been released.
The joint appearance will also give Prime Minister Johnson an opportunity to publicly highlight his close relationship with President Trump.

“It’s about Mr. Trump hugging Mr. Johnson,” former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said of Friday’s joint appearance, according to the New York Times. “This is President Trump saying, ‘He’s the chairman, I’m his friend, we’re in this together.'” That’s pretty important to him. He just has to endure.”
The high-profile joint appearance came just days after President Trump met with former British Prime Minister David Cameron at Mar-a-Lago.
