Speaker Mike Johnson, top Republicans rip Trump guilty verdict as political ploy: ‘Shameful day’

House Speaker Mike Johnson joined other Republican lawmakers in slamming former President Donald Trump’s historic felony conviction as a “purely political stunt” and a “weaponization of the justice system” by President Biden.

“This is a shameful day in American history. Democrats cheered as they convicted the leader of their own party on absurd charges based on the testimony of a disbarred and convicted felon,” Sen. Johnson (R-Louisiana) blasted minutes after it was announced that a Manhattan jury had found the Republican presidential candidate guilty of all 34 charges in his hush money trial.

Johnson was one of several Trump supporters who traveled to New York earlier this month to listen to the trial in person.

“This is a purely political act, not a legal act,” he continued.

“Weaponization of the judicial system is a hallmark of the Biden Administration, and today’s decision is further evidence that Democrats will stop at nothing to silence dissent and crush their political opponents. The American people see this as a legal war, and they know it is wrong and dangerous. President Trump will, of course, appeal this absurd verdict, and he will win!”

Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, the House’s fourth-ranking Republican, said the shocking verdict “shows how corrupt, how dishonest and how un-American this is.” [sic] Under Joe Biden and a Democratic administration, the justice system is being weaponized.”

“The facts are clear: this was a zombie case illegally brought by corrupt prosecutors following Joe Biden’s political bidding and desperate to save Joe Biden’s failing campaign,” she said.

“This case hinged on the testimony of a convicted felon who was disbarred from the bar for lying and who committed perjury when he lied to Congress.”

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), a strong ally of President Trump, also spoke out, calling the verdict a “travesty of justice.”

“The Manhattan Platypus trial shows what happens when partisan prosecutors weaponize our justice system with unfair proceedings in front of a biased judge in order to distract President Trump from the campaign and draw attention to President Biden’s failed and radical policies,” the Ohio congressman said.

New York Rep. Nicole Malliotakis slammed the “fake” result as “pre-ordained” and said it was inevitable that Trump would not receive a fair trial in Democratic-leaning New York.

“What Alvin Bragg and the Democrats accused President Trump of doing in 2016 – conspiring to facilitate or prevent the election of a person to public office through illegal means – is exactly what the Democrats themselves have done in this political indictment,” she said.

“They concocted this entire witch hunt, conspired to weaponize our justice system to interfere in our election and stop President Trump from being re-elected in November.”

Democrats, meanwhile, are ecstatic to be led by socialist darling Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who proudly kicked off her own town hall meeting in the Bronx on Thursday night.

“He was convicted on all 34 charges,” she said to applause.

“The rule of law applies to everyone.”

Meanwhile, Rep. Maxine Waters said: X wrote: “Hallelujah!!! My prediction came true! Three years ago, during a speech for the Human Rights Campaign, I predicted that Stormy Daniels would get Trump. My faith in the criminal justice system has been strengthened!”
