special prosecutor jack smith resigned The ruling from the Department of Justice was issued on January 10, according to court documents.
Smith, who was expected to submit his resignation by Inauguration Day, led two prosecutions against President-elect Donald Trump, none of which went to trial. One federal lawsuit accuses Trump of trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election, and the other accuses Trump of mishandling classified documents. Mr. Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Both lawsuits against the president-elect were ultimately dropped, but Trump's former co-defendants in the classified documents case, longtime aide Walt Nauta and Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos de Oliveira, It's in dispute.
On his way out the door, Mr. Smith delivered the final blow to Mr. Trump, submitting a two-volume report to Attorney General Merrick Garland detailing the investigation into the president-elect.
Lawyers for Mr. Nauta and Mr. de Oliveira filed an emergency motion with the U.S. Court of Appeals to block the Justice Department from releasing the report. However, their bid was rejected on Thursday.
The Justice Department said it plans to release the first volume of its report related to the alleged election interference case. The second volume, which covers the classified document investigation, will currently be released only to the House and Senate Judiciary Committees, the Justice Department said.
Mark Freeman of the Department of Justice's Civil Division I wrote Garland said he will not publicly release Volume 2 while the case is ongoing “to avoid the risk of prejudicing defendants Nauta and de Oliveira.”
“This limited disclosure will protect defendants' interests while furthering the public interest in keeping Congressional leadership informed of important issues within the department,” Freeman said.
President Trump mentioned plans to release the Justice Department's report.
He wrote: post In Truth Social, “Why did the deranged Jack Smith get removed from the case and ultimately dismissed by the Department of Justice when he was asked about a complete and utter witch-hunt against me for strictly political purposes?'' So, to put it simply, he has been unfairly implicated in this political persecution, and the hundreds of millions of dollars spent by our hapless government. It was all in vain. [filed] The thousands of rejected statements and documents against me were a “joke”, yet the people voted me president in a landslide! ”
U.S. District Judge Eileen Cannon of South Florida temporarily blocked the Justice Department from releasing the report. Her order expires on Monday evening. Mr. Nauta and Mr. de Oliveira asked for an extension of the injunction, but Cannon had not yet ruled on their request as of Monday morning.
