In a special election without a primary to select candidates, all candidates run at once. If no candidate wins a majority by April 9, the two candidates with the most votes will advance to a runoff election on May 7.

The election will only be held for the remainder of Smith’s term, which runs until the end of this year. Candidates who wish to continue serving will need to re-qualify early next month to run in November.
