Special Knicks night came out of nowhere —but at the perfect time

This is one of the lures. This is one of the reasons why we come back despite the fact that the seasons seem to grow long because there is no script in the sport (despite the occasional official/judgment/judgment conspiracy theory). There is no plan.

One day you will be appearing at the stadium in mid-May, where a tired former first-ball player named Dwight Gooden goes back 11 years and is hit from nowhere at Yankee Stadium. One night you go to a soccer game in the swamps of Jersey, Odell Beckham Jr. plows football from the air with one hand, and you can't believe your eyes are not doing tricks on you.

Sometimes, sometimes you can see things you've never seen before. Before Wednesday night, the Knicks had played 6,175 games in history. There were plenty of games that included a franchise iteration, well known for winning two championships, but are well known for being perhaps the most selfish team in sports history.
