Spencer Jones Shines in Triple-A Match

Spencer Jones has been on fire lately.

During a recent game with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders against the Rochester Red Wings, the Yankees’ top prospects belted three home runs in just the first five innings, capturing attention across the baseball community as the MLB trade deadline looms.

Per MLB Pipeline, Jones, who ranks as the Yankees’ fourth-best prospect, has hit 13 home runs in just 19 games since his promotion to Triple-A, which might boost his trade value as interest from other teams grows.

Standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing 240 pounds, the left-handed outfielder started the game strong by launching a solo homer to right field during his second at-bat, putting Scranton/Wilkes-Barre up 1-0.

A couple of innings later, he sent another solo shot over the left-field wall.

By the time all was said and done, Jones had secured his third home run of the day, thrilling Yankees fans eager to see his performance.

He didn’t stop there; he also made a fantastic sliding catch in center field to cap off the inning.

Despite his impressive display, Rochester ultimately clinched the game 10-8, with Jones finishing with five runs scored.

In fact, he was actively swinging during his last two at-bats.

Selected 25th overall in the 2022 draft from Vanderbilt, Jones has now hit 28 homers this season between Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and the Double-A Somerset Patriots while boasting a .308 batting average and an OPS of 1.079.

There’s been plenty of talk about whether Jones might be traded to enhance the Yankees’ Major League roster, yet he has expressed a strong desire to remain in New York and continue his development.

“I was discussing this with my girlfriend,” he told the Athletic recently, “But, ultimately, I want to play in New York, become part of this organization, and stay true to it.”

He even found the circulating trade rumors amusing, particularly one linking him to the Diamondbacks.

“I put up a post celebrating my home run and one comment said, ‘Preparing to talk about the desert, buddy.’ I found that really funny,” he remarked. “For me, this time of year in baseball is just so entertaining, and I love the creativity from the fans. It’s fantastic. I’m not sure about talking about the desert, though!”
