Spike Eskin had the unenviable task of talking about a scandal involving his father on the radio.
Howard Eskin, a longtime sports talk radio host for Audacy’s WIP in Philadelphia, has reportedly been barred from attending Phillies games for the remainder of this season after being accused of making “unwanted approaches” to female Aramark stadium employees.
Spike, a former program director at WFAN who now co-hosts WIP’s afternoon drive show, addressed the scandal at the start of his show on Wednesday.
“Stories about my father are out there,” Spike said. Awful Announcing covers.
“You’ve probably read it, you’ve probably heard about it, but the truth is, he and I are different people who do different things.
“Even though he does this job and I do this job, I’m not him and he’s not me. For better or worse, I think we’ve made that very clear over the years. So I’m not comfortable talking about the issue itself at all. I’m not comfortable talking about anyone else at WIP. This is a matter for him and the station and the people involved, not me.”
Audacy told the Philadelphia Inquirer that the network handled the situation internally. Howard continues to host WIP’s Saturday morning show.
“So as far as the show goes and as far as me goes, we’re going to approach the show exactly the same as we always have. Nothing’s going to change. It’s going to be business as usual. And from this point on, that’s all from me,” Spike continued.
“And the reason is because I felt it was the right thing to do and the respectful thing to do. And honestly, those four hours are the highlight of my day. And I feel like this show is like an escape for me from everything else… I felt like it was the right thing to say, but that’s all I can say or will say.”
