Spike Lee's supportive Palestinian attire draws attention at the NBA All-Star Game

Spike Lee Makes a Statement at NBA All-Star Game

Spike Lee was spotted courtside at the NBA All-Star Game held at the Intuit Dome in Southern California, and it was his choice of attire that really caught the attention of attendees. He showed up sporting pro-Palestinian clothing amidst a new format for the game, which featured a mix of World All-Stars and U.S. All-Stars.

This event, which took place in Inglewood, California, marked a special occasion for Portland Trail Blazers forward Deni Avdija. He became the first Israeli-born player to participate in the All-Star Game, donning an Israeli flag on the back of his jersey.

While Lee didn’t make any dramatic statements, his outfit alone was enough to convey a message. Reflecting on playing for his country, Avdija mentioned, “When you come to play, you feel like you’re coming with the whole nation. It’s fun to show that even in a small country like ours, it’s possible.”

Interestingly, politics seemed to hover in the background during the festivities. Houston Rockets star Alperen Sengun, who is Turkish, was asked about his connection with Avdija, given the tenuous relationship between their countries.

Sengun, in response, indicated the larger picture: “You know, I think it’s much bigger than ours. We’re here, just representing our country the best we can. Deni is the same hard worker. Things are much bigger than ours. We’re just here doing what we love.” He added a hopeful note, expressing that basketball might foster love and peace, something everyone longs for.

In terms of gameplay, Avdija logged about 15 minutes across two matches, although the World All-Stars ended up losing both games.
