Some passengers experienced close encounters after getting a bit too near to Air Force planes. When President Trump’s flight passed over Long Island, there were delays in adjusting the flight path.
The pilot of Spirit Airlines Flight 1300, which was making its way from Fort Lauderdale to Boston, tried to alert air traffic controllers about the rapidly approaching altitude of the president’s aircraft, according to reports.
Bloomberg indicated that this unusual back-and-forth was recorded and shared on social media platforms.
As the situation unfolded, the air traffic controller instructed, “The Spirit 1300 will be 20 degrees right.”
The repeated warnings emphasized the need for caution, with the controller reminding the pilot to adjust their course promptly.
After some hesitation, the pilot responded and started to comply with the direction.
However, controllers again stressed the importance of awareness regarding the approaching aircraft.
“The Spirit 1300 is about six to eight miles from the left wing of the 747. You should see who it is. Keep an eye on him. He’s got a white and blue design,” the controller mentioned.
In a more urgent tone, they cautioned, “Be careful! Get off your iPad!” to ensure that the pilot was focused.
Bloomberg reported that while the exchange seemed dramatic, Air Force One was not actually in danger. The Spirit Flight completed its journey without further issues and landed safely in Boston.
A spokesperson for Spirit Airlines confirmed the priority of safety following the incident.
According to the airline, Flight 1300 adhered to the procedures as instructed by Air Traffic Control during its flight to Boston.
Meanwhile, President Trump and First Lady Melania arrived safely at London Stansted Airport after departing from Andrews Joint Base in Maryland.
Trump’s agenda includes a meeting with King Charles III at Windsor Castle as well as discussions with Prime Minister Kiel later in the week.
