A warehouse storing an unknown amount of fireworks exploded on Memorial Day Monday, local authorities said.
An explosion occurred Monday afternoon at the Spirit of ’76 Fireworks Warehouse in Boonville, Missouri. The Cooper County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the blast to Fox News Digital.
Boonville Police and Boonville Fire Department are on scene, and Cooper County Fire Rescue confirmed in a Facebook post that firefighters are battling the blaze.
“We are on scene of a structure fire at the Spirit of 76 Fireworks Display,” the post said. “This is mutual aid to Boonville Fire.”

Videos posted to social media showed a mushroom cloud forming outside the plant and a plume of smoke, with some social media users saying they noticed the explosion while driving nearby on Interstate 70.
No information about injuries or fatalities is available.

According to the company’s website, Spirit of ’76 Fireworks is “the nation’s leading wholesaler of fireworks” and was founded in Columbia, Missouri in 1986.
