Sports world mourns MSG Network icon Al Trautwig’s death

The world of sports lamentes the death of longtime MSG network broadcaster Al Trautwig. His business colleagues revealed how Trautwig has influenced them and many others throughout his career.

His former MSG network teammate Alan Hearn first released the news and expressed his sadness.

“[Trautwig] I was not only a friend, but a mentor and teacher,” Hahn wrote. “Personally, when I moved into this career, he was one of my biggest support resources.”

Trautwig is best known in the metropolitan area for his work on MSG Networks, ABC, NBC and USA Networks.

He also covered the Olympics and appeared in Disney's “Cool Running.”

“When Al's voice was the first voice to start a pre-match, no one felt the local broadcast so loud,” said ESPN commentator and Jets Play by Play announcer. Bob Wischuzen wrote in X.

“He was a legendary host [MSG Network],' NBC New York lead sports anchor Bruce Beck said. “He only needed a clipboard with some notes. When it came to extempraneous speaking, he was the best of all time.”

With the voice played by the ESPN Radio host and yes Network Yankees, Michael Kay learned ropes from Troutwig when he began his career.

“I've been blessed with working with some great broadcasters, but no one was better than Al Troutwig. He was meant to be broadcast.” Kay wrote. “Al has been patiently walking through the young writers through the growth of his painful TV drama. His lessons were invaluable. He has been part of the New York Sports soundtrack for years at MSG. I am. I miss him. It's too early.”

Howie Rose from Mets Radio By-Player shared a similar experience.

“Whenever I broadcast an islander game during my year and bring in a new host/sideline reporter, whenever I'm asked for advice, I just say, 'Look at Al Troutwig' . ” Rose said. “It's the best thing I've ever done.”

“Al Troutwig's influence, lessons and advice were unparalleled.” Fox 5 New York lead sports anchor Tina Cervasio saidformer MSG network reporter.

MMA journalist Ariel Helwani may have best summed up Troutwig's iconic legacy.

“Sport Titans in New York. When you think of the magical garden night of the 90s, you think of Altrout Wigs first and foremost.” Helwani said.
