Family Involved in Poker-Game Murder

A 41-year-old man from New Jersey, Everton Thomas, reportedly fled to Canada after allegedly killing a man during a poker game in Camden. The incident involved his wife, Sherrie Parker, and their son, Deshawn Thomas, who are also implicated in the case.

Harold Miller, 48, was reported missing in June. His vehicle was later located in Pensauken. Authorities pieced together the timeline using surveillance footage and cell phone records, which indicated that a poker game took place at the Thomas residence on June 12.

The footage suggests that Miller did not leave the home. Additionally, audio recordings captured what sounded like gunshots from inside.

Authorities allege that Sherrie Parker and Deshawn Thomas purchased a chainsaw and other cleaning supplies, which they brought back to the home. They were also seen loading containers and garbage bags to dispose of evidence.

On June 20, a search of the home uncovered a loaded firearm and blood stains that matched the DNA of the missing man. Shortly after, Everton Thomas reportedly fled to Canada the next day.

On September 5, formal charges were filed against Everton Thomas for first-degree murder, while his wife and son faced charges related to the handling of human remains.

Statements from family revealed troubling dynamics. Allegedly, when her actions were questioned, Parker remarked, “My wife had to do what she had to do.” Meanwhile, Deshawn Thomas reportedly indicated that his father had instructed him to “cut” the body.

Local residents have mentioned a distinct odor emanating from the Thomas home, hinting at the grim events that transpired there.

Everton Thomas has since been arrested and is awaiting extradition back to New Jersey. As of now, Miller’s body has not been recovered.
