St. John’s gives concerning Deivon Smith injury update

Villanova, PA – Rick Pitino doesn't expect Davon Smith anytime soon.

The St. John's coach said Smith, who is currently dealing with neck injuries, tried to face Villanova on Wednesday night but couldn't.

The current plan is to let him rest in the hopes of the senior point guard getting healthy.

Smith also deals with the injured right shoulder that he suffered on January 11th. Smith missed four games after his first injury.

“In my opinion, I think he ended up for the regular season. Pitino needs to get him healthy after 9th place Johnny fell to 73-71 (73-71) at Finna Lam Pavilion. There is,” he said. “The longer he gets away, the better it gets for us. He's not the same player he was a month ago and we've started to make him healthy. He'll probably go out for a while. I'm wrong. You'll miss the Clayton game without [on Sunday] And I say DePaul Game. ”

Averaging 9.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists, Smith is one of St. John's best 3-point shooters and is key to the transition game.

Without him would be a huge blow. But Johnny needs to get him right. He has struggled since returning, making only five out of 28 from the field with minimal impact.

“If you bring him back too quickly, you'll lose him [postseason]” Pitino said.
