St. John’s optimistic RJ Luis Jr. will play vs. rival UConn

RJ Luis Jr. is making progress in his pulled gro caliber.

The main scorer for St. John's will practice on Saturday and he will be available against Connecticut on Sunday against Connecticut, sources said.

Lewis missed DePaul's blowout due to an injury Wednesday. Coach Rick Pipino said Friday that the decision will be left to Lewis.

The 6-foot-7 wing is a top contender for Big East Player of the Year, averaging 17.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.4 steel.

He contributed to the previous victory of No. 10 Johnny, who ranked Connecticut at No. 10th in Storps, Connecticut on February 7 with 21 points and seven rebounds.

“He's an NBA player,” UConn coach Dan Hurley said. “If you put two crazy 6-6 physical two-way players and a massive rebounder with him and Caddary [Richmond] At the guard spot [Deivon] Smith and Sim [Wilcher]or anyone else they put on the boundary line, it's an intimidating tandem. ”

Later, Harley added: “I don't think he wants to miss this tomorrow.”

St. John's defense was a difference in the first meeting between the teams.

The Red Storm forced 22 Connecticut sales and held the Husky's 15th place offense to 32 points at the final 31:38 after a hot start.

“I thought there was more to the overall quality of the half-court defense, physicality, size, and the ability to turn the ball on and off all,” Harley said. “We made some bad mistakes, but the overall quality of their half-court defense was making it tough for you. They scramble, spin and defend the ball. It's a formidable defense.”

Multiple streaks will be on the line on Sunday.

St. John's has yet to lose at home, and has scored a perfect 16-0 so far, winning 18 consecutive overall in his own building during the regular season.

Connecticut won 10 games in New York City and eight games in the yard in a row.
