St. Louis Cardinals Appear to Perform Donald Trump Salute During Home Run

Several St. Louis Cardinals players appeared to give the Donald Trump salute in celebration of Alec Burleson’s solo home run on Sunday.

Burleson, the team’s designated hitter, hit a home run over the right field fence in the bottom of the second inning against the Atlanta Braves.

As Burleson rounded the bases, at least three of his teammates in the dugout pumped their left fists and covered their right ears with their right hands. Burleson saw what they were doing and did the same on the field.

The gesture appeared to reference Trump’s actions in the aftermath of the assassination attempt in Pennsylvania on July 13, when he left the podium at a rally on July 13 with his fist raised in defiance after a bullet struck him in the right ear.

Burleson, 25, is having a much better season this year since being promoted for his rookie season last year, batting .294 with 18 home runs, 59 RBI and seven stolen bases to date.

The Cardinals ultimately won, 6-2.
