Staff Allegedly Criticizes ‘Call Her Daddy’ Host Alex Cooper Over Claims of a Toxic Work Environment

A revealing article in Vanity Fair, released on June 12, suggests that Alex Cooper, the host of “Call Her Daddy,” may not be as nice behind the scenes as she seems on camera.

According to sources—over 40 in total, many of whom are current or former employees at her media company, Unwell—Cooper has displayed a different demeanor when the cameras stop rolling. Allegations have surfaced that she failed to shield her staff from her husband, Matt Kaplan, described by some as toxic. Kaplan has even been called a “puppet master” in this unfolding drama, which he seems to be directing.

Rumors about Cooper’s behavior intensified after a feud with influencer Alix Earle over what some termed poor management decisions, particularly when Cooper announced in February 2025 that Earle was ousted from their network. “We don’t support mean women in this company,” she reportedly claimed, though sources have disputed the truth of that statement.

According to the same article, the anonymous voices indicated that tension on set was largely attributed to Kaplan. One former employee remarked, “Matt is creating the most toxic work environment I’ve ever seen.” Complaints reportedly range from intense emotional outbursts to inappropriate discussions about employees’ personal lives.

One source even described instances where they witnessed employees in tears. Another detailed Kaplan’s habit of inquiring about employees’ weekend escapades in a manner that many found inappropriate. Attorneys for Cooper and Kaplan dismissed these allegations, labeling them “false and outrageous.”

Further accusations claimed Kaplan used derogatory terms for staff and threatened their careers. Meanwhile, some observed that Cooper appeared to witness his outbursts without stepping in to help.

There’s also a notable contrast in the perspectives on Kaplan; while some found his flirtations harmless, others felt uncomfortable with his lengthy interactions.

Interestingly, Cooper’s public stance against “girl-on-girl hate” during her feud with Earle has raised eyebrows when juxtaposed with these behind-the-scenes accounts. A source mentioned an incident when Kaplan, seemingly agitated, exclaimed he wanted to yell at someone, yet Cooper did not intervene.

Overall, these claims starkly contrast with Cooper’s public image as a leader who supports women. Another source remarked that Kaplan contributed to a chaotic environment that left people feeling anxious and unsettled.
