A staff member of Andre Carson, who receives taxpayer-funded salaries, suggested that the murdered conservative activist Charlie Kirk deserved his fate.
Heather Harvey, using the handle @the_smartass_staffer on Instagram, works as the Advanced Configuration Liaison. She posted a video on her Instagram and LinkedIn that implied Kirk’s violent end was justified.
“Charlie Kirk is not an alien,” she asserted in the video. “He is the result of the violence he provoked.”
Harvey has amassed over 30,000 followers on Instagram and frequently posts content that raises eyebrows about her time dedicated to creating posts between work hours.
Some of these posts include partisan takes that might hinder veterans’ access to timely care from the VA.
She also shared a video advising residents of Georgia’s 14th Congressional District against reaching out to their House representative, encouraging them instead to contact Democratic Senators John Ossoff or Rafael Warnock. This ignored the fact that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) represents that area.
Even with her partisan suggestions, House offices in larger states like Georgia, including Greene’s, generally have more resources dedicated to veteran casework than Senate offices do.
In another post, Harvey showcased videos attacking the role of casework staff essential for bridging connections between constituents and VA contacts.
Additionally, she shared videos that were filmed in what appeared to be her government office but came off as unprofessional.
“POV: You asked the components for their zip code,” one caption read.
She also highlighted letters from schoolchildren aimed at veterans for a Valentine’s Day initiative while laughing unnaturally about her grandfather’s military service.
In another video, she stated, “I hate the federal government,” while acknowledging her position as a federal employee. She even recorded a video in a restroom, expressing disdain for government operations and questioning a man wearing makeup in a women’s restroom.
Despite her controversial postings, Carson praised Harvey on his official social media accounts, saying, “Congratulations to Heather Harvey for receiving the Jefferson Award for her years of service to veterans.” He noted that her dedication is evident to anyone familiar with her work.
However, following Kirk’s death, Carson released a standard statement condemning political violence, referencing a previous incident involving a Minnesota couple. He firmly stated, “Political violence is never acceptable and must be prevented.”
Kirk was shot while hosting a session at a Turning Point USA event in Orem, Utah. He co-founded the organization and played a significant role in building its political and cultural influence, promoting civil discourse among students.
