Staff members at the Israeli Embassy killed, college basketball coach responds

A Tragic Incident Outside the Capital Jewish Museum

Brue Pearl, the head coach of the Auburn Tigers men’s basketball team and president of the US Israeli Education Association, expressed deep sorrow over the killing of two Israeli embassy staff members following an event at the Capital Jewish Museum on Wednesday night.

During an appearance on Outkick’s show with Dan Dakich, Pearl mentioned he had been discussing Jewish heritage earlier that evening before the tragic shooting unfolded.

“There’s an alarming increase in anti-Semitism, and we’re struggling to combat it,” Pearl remarked. He described the victims as a young couple—two diplomats—who were looking forward to their future together. He noted that the young man had plans to propose, emphasizing the personal loss involved.

Pearl went on to voice concern about anti-Israel sentiments, suggesting that those who advocate for “Free Palestine” actually envision removing Jews from the region. “When they chant ‘free Palestine,’ they’re really saying free Palestine, meaning Jewish Palestine,” he stated. He added that such rhetoric could easily be directed toward other groups if aimed at Jewish people.

Despite the gravity of the situation, some college basketball coaches, including Pearl, doubt that the shooting will significantly alter attitudes among those protesting against Israel. “I’m not sure this will lead to change. It seems to fade away quickly, just like everything else,” he remarked.

Witnesses recounted harrowing details of the attack, with one confirming the shooter’s declaration: “I did this for Gaza.” The two victims, Jaron Lisinsky from Israel and Sarah Milgrim from America, were about to get engaged when they were fatally shot.

Law enforcement has taken a suspect, identified as 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez, into custody. He reportedly approached the two victims outside the museum, opened fire, and later entered the museum where he was apprehended. During his detention, he shouted “Free, free Palestine!”

The NFL’s Washington Commanders voiced their condemnation of anti-Semitism, reminding the community that such hatred has no place in society. “We are profoundly saddened by the tragic murder of two young Israeli diplomats,” they stated. “We extend our condolences to the families of Yaron Lisinsky and Sarah Milgrim. Their memories will be forever cherished.”
