Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) said one of his staff members was robbed at gunpoint in Washington, D.C. on Sunday.
Collins wrote to X that three men had attempted to rob an unnamed employee and his friend in the city’s Navy Yard area.
“One of the assailants stole my watch and the other struck me in the face with his fist,” he wrote. “Our nation’s capital has become a battlefield thanks to Washington’s policy of good for criminals.”

He said staff and friends fought off the robbers and were unharmed. Fox News Digital has reached out to the Metropolitan Police.and Collins’ office.
In another X post, Collins blamed local authorities for Washington’s crime problem.

“D.C. leaders have proven time and time again that they are incapable of governing and protecting their citizens,” he wrote. “Violent crime in this city is an issue that affects everyone. It is inconceivable that drive-by robberies are commonplace just a few blocks from the Capitol.”

Overall crime in the city was down 16% as of Monday compared to the same period in 2023, according to police data. Thefts were down 23% and robberies were down 29%, according to police statistics.
