NFC West Loaded This Season
This season, the NFC West is definitely stacked. Each team’s roster has its highs and lows, sparking some optimism but also raising concerns. The Rams, after making a playoff run, are in a crucial spot. Do they have enough talent to reach the Super Bowl again? And what about the San Francisco 49ers? Staying healthy is their biggest challenge. Even teams like the Cardinals and Seahawks have intriguing storylines this season.
Moreover, there are breakout candidates waiting to shine in the NFC West.
Arizona Cardinals: CB Max Melton
Later in the last season, Melton had a -0.35 EPA per target and led the Cardinals in pass defense. It’s also interesting to note that the Cardinals didn’t draft corners until the second round while focusing on beefing up their front line. I think Melton might just become a pivotal corner for the team, showcasing impressive ball skills in coverage.
Los Angeles Rams: WR Konata Mumpfield
I’m trying to shy away from mentioning rookies too much, but I really believe in Mumpfield. The Rams are in dire need of reliable speed among their receivers, and Mumpfield possesses the ability to create separation and burst out of the slot in ways that Tutu Atwell doesn’t seem capable of achieving consistently. He could complement the styles of WRs like Davante Adams and Puka Nacua, potentially making the offense significantly more dynamic.
San Francisco 49ers: CB Renardo Green
I really enjoyed watching Green play outside cornerback. He fits beautifully into Robert Saleh’s defensive system. Last year, he set a rookie record with 13 pass breakups and moved up the depth chart early in his career. While he struggled with big plays in the past, he’s shown improvement in tackling and coverage skills. With a seasoned defensive coordinator like Saleh guiding him, it’s likely we might see a big leap from him in his second year.
Seattle Seahawks: LB Tyrice Knight
Following the addition of LB Ernest Jones, the Seahawks’ defense flourished, especially with Knight stepping up. With more responsibility and an experienced voice next to him, he was able to roam the sidelines more effectively. I was genuinely impressed by his speed and ability to tackle in space as a rookie. He made offensive linemen slide off him with ease. There’s definitely potential for Knight to elevate his game even further, especially under Mike McDonald’s guidance in Seattle.
