Star son's journey as a 'cancer fighter' leads to honorary captain role with the Jaguars

Honorary Captain for Jaguars Game

In a touching moment during the Jaguars’ game against the Seattle Seahawks, Josh Hynes-Allen’s son, Wesley, served as the honorary captain.

Wesley, who is just 8 years old, walked with his father to midfield to meet the Seahawks players ahead of the coin toss. In July, it was announced that he had been battling acute promyelocytic leukemia. Fortunately, after completing his treatment in August, Wesley is now reported to be in complete remission.

The Jaguars announced in a pregame release that, “the honorary captain for this game will be cancer warrior Wesley Allen, son of Jaguars DE Josh Hynes Allen.” They described him as a true embodiment of strength and determination.

His journey has inspired his father’s season-long initiative, “For One for Hope,” aimed at supporting cancer-focused nonprofits through the organization For One for All.

Wesley was also officially recognized as the Honorary Captain for the Crucial Catch campaign. Meanwhile, Hynes-Allen contributed three tackles in the game, even though the Jaguars fell to the Seahawks with a score of 20-12. It’s worth noting that two of his tackles led to points.

This season, Hynes-Allen, who joined the Jaguars in 2019, aims to raise awareness about childhood cancer. With a career record of 53.5 sacks and 311 total tackles, he remains a key player on the team.
