Jenna Ortega Celebrates Wednesday’s Season 2 Launch in Sydney
Warning: Contains spoilers for Wednesday Season 2, Part 2
This past Thursday, I found myself on Cockatoo Island in Sydney, where the cloudy weather seemed just right for the occasion.
Jenna Ortega, dressed in her character’s iconic dark attire, made a memorable entrance with Emma Myers, who plays her quirky best friend, Enid Sinclair, for the promotion of the island’s “Exiled Assembly,” highlighting the show’s Season 2.
Tim Burton, the director and executive producer, was also present at the event.
“I love the characters,” he shared with the audience, explaining his connection to Wednesday Adams. “I resonate with her feelings about family, school, and society, which is why I’m so excited to be in this beautiful place.”
The trio is wrapping up their Global Doom Tour in Sydney, following stops in various countries like England, Poland, and Canada. This was a significant moment, with an important announcement planned for this final leg.
The big reveal came when actress Gwendolyn Christie dramatically appeared from behind a moon suspended in the warehouse, confirming that her character, Larissa Weems, would be returning from the dead in Season 2.
“Did you really think Nevermore would let me go that easily?” her voice rang out, leaving an impact. “I was never gone.”
Fans will recall that Weems, a shapeshifter and former roommate of Wednesday’s mother, becomes the principal of Nevermore Academy, where both Wednesday and Enid find themselves.
After being a key figure in the first season, Weems’ untimely demise had shocked many viewers during the first season, where she fell victim to a poisoning plot.
Ortega expressed her gratitude from the stage, remarking on the honor of re-exploring her role on the show. “Maybe you can’t revisit a character unless it’s someone like Wednesday. I truly feel fortunate.”
Burton, Ortega, and Myers will be taking center stage once more on Saturday, as the Harbor turns into a whimsical setting reminiscent of Wednesday’s world, allowing fans to navigate through thematic experiences.
In the new season, Wednesday is set to return to Nevermore Academy, armed with her signature wit and detective skills, as she dives into a new supernatural mystery filled with bizarre occurrences.
Interestingly, even after almost three years between seasons, Netflix’s data shows that Season 2: Part 1, which debuted on August 6, had no drop in viewership.
According to reports, Wednesday amassed 50 million views within the first five days of streaming, matching the viewership from Season 1’s premiere in November 2022.
While Season 1 was entirely released all at once, Season 2 is only rolling out four episodes initially, with Part 2 set to release on September 3.
Wednesday Season 2: Part 1 is currently available on Netflix. Part 2 will be released on September 3.
