‘Starsky & Hutch’ actor Paul Michael Glaser: Where is he now?

Paul Michael Glaser became famous as one half of Starsky and Hutch.

The show, which ran for four seasons on ABC from 1975 to 1979, followed Detectives David Starsky and Kenneth Hutch Hutchinson, played by David Soule, as they patrol the streets of the fictional Bay City, California.

Glaser told the Television Academy in August 2014, “At that time, we all seemed to have a similar drive to make something happen in our careers, and we were more determined and wanted to make something of high quality.'' He had a strong will to do it,'' he said at the Television Academy.

“With my own personal motivations and David's personal motivations, they identified a level of work and a level of intention that allowed us to become more than just a script. The chemistry was initially I think it was from.”

Mr. Glazer's crime-solving partner, Mr. Saul, died Thursday night.

Glaser made his directorial debut while playing Dave Starsky on Starsky & Hutch, directing five episodes of the show from 1977 to 1979.

One of the connections he made while on the show was with Michael Mann, who offered him a position directing several episodes of Miami Vice, which led to Glazer's Emmy nomination.

“It was a great experience because Michael solved the situation in what was the first series in Miami history,” Glazer told the Television Academy. “This was the first series that worked outside of the studio, with the cooperation of the East Coast unions and everything else. So Miami couldn't help us enough. The studio was against the country's opposition. We had to do so many things because there wasn't that much supervision…and I did. ”

Glazer continued to direct after the nomination. His other projects include “Band of the Hand,'' “Judge Amy,'' “Las Vegas,'' and “Criminal Minds.'' In addition to directing, from 2010 to 2014 he also served as a producer on 77 episodes of “Shark Tank.”

Glaser's career came full circle in 2013 when he played Tevye in the UK touring production of Fiddler on the Roof.

The actor's first experience with the musical was when he played Perchik in the 1971 film version. In an interview with the Television Academy, he had never seen the play before, but explained that when he first read the script, he thought he was too old for the role. In 1981, Glaser's wife, Elizabeth Glaser, was infected with HIV when she received a blood transfusion during the birth of their daughter, Ariel. It turned out that he was infected internally.

“What really became clear was that science and medicine had not penetrated enough into research and medicine to create enough of an illusion that science and medicine were in control of everything,” he said. told the Television Academy.

They soon realized that the medical community lacked treatment for children with HIV, which led to their daughter's death from AIDS in 1988. Elizabeth then joined forces with her best friends Susie Siegen and Susan DeLaurentis to start the Foundation. It is now known as the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

After Elizabeth died of AIDS in 1994, Glaser remained dedicated to eliminating HIV and AIDS among pediatric patients through research, advocacy, and prevention programs. The foundation is now a global nonprofit organization.
