Get Ready for a Lunar Getaway

Don’t forget to bring your space suit.

A startup based in Silicon Valley is redefining travel with its offering of lunar hotel reservations, pricing ranging from $250,000 to an astonishing $1 million per guest.

GRU Space plans to establish a permanent human settlement on the moon by 2032, with preliminary testing and construction anticipated to commence in 2029.

The initial lunar lodging will be inflatable, catering to four guests for a multi-day stay. Guests can engage in moonwalking, driving, and even golfing during their time there. The first facility is designed to endure for about a decade.

Future expansions of the structure will incorporate lunar materials and aim to accommodate up to 10 guests. There are aspirations to eventually replace the initial setup with a larger, more impressive building inspired by San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts.

Skylar Chan, the 22-year-old founder of GRU Space, stated, “We really need to shoot for the literal moon.” It seems that this hotel concept isn’t just for the luxury vacationer—it marks a potential leap toward humanity’s journey beyond Earth. There’s a growing sentiment in the tech arena that our civilization might one day have an otherworldly address.

Chan noted that currently, space exploration is primarily governed by affluent governments and corporations. However, there’s hope that lunar tourism could invigorate the space economy.

“Moon tourism is the best first wedge to boost the moon’s economy,” he remarked.

While hotel rates can be jaw-dropping, the expenses associated with traveling there could make it considerably more challenging.

Although the final price remains undecided, it’s expected to surpass $10 million, according to a company statement. Those interested will need to pay a non-refundable application fee of $1,000 and pass a thorough background check, which will include medical and financial disclosures.

The application review process is set to begin this year.
