Investigation into Melania Trump Statue Disappearance
Ljubljana, Slovenia (AP) — The police in Slovenia are looking into the disappearance of a bronze statue of Melania Trump, the first American lady, which was recently transported from her hometown under lock and key.
This life-sized sculpture was unveiled in 2020 during Donald Trump’s first presidential term, situated near Sevenica in Central Slovenia. The statue gained attention at the beginning of that year.
Police spokesperson Allenka Drenik Rangas reported on Friday that authorities were notified about the statue’s theft on Tuesday, and they are currently trying to locate the person responsible for its removal.
Reports from Slovenian media indicate that the bronze statue was damaged, with its ankles broken off.
Previously, a wooden version of this statue was set ablaze in July 2020. That original figure had been carved from a linden tree trunk and depicted Melania in a pale blue dress, reminiscent of one she wore at President Trump’s inauguration in 2017.
Interestingly, the bronze replica does not resemble the First Lady in any obvious way.
