Steak 'n Shake challenges Five Guys while advertising its July Liberty Meal offer.

Steak ‘n Shake has launched a month-long promotion called the Liberty Meal to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary, and it seems they’ve taken a jab at their competition in the process. The offer is for two Liberty Meals at the price of $17.76 throughout July. According to their post on X, each Liberty Meal includes a double grass-fed steak burger, tallow fries, and a Patriot Milkshake. They cleverly added, “I can’t touch this, Mr. Five Guys…”

This cheeky post gained significant attention with 1.5 million views and close to 1,000 comments. One user on X asked, “Hey @FiveGuys, how do you guys respond?” which led to varied replies, with one stating that Five Guys doesn’t need to respond because their food is better. Another commenter added that both restaurants can satisfy a person’s hunger for about the same price.

Others expressed excitement about the Liberty Meal. One user noted they were looking forward to visiting the new Steak ‘n Shake in Royal Oak, Michigan, while another mentioned a planned trip with kids. A common sentiment seemed to be the desire for more Steak ‘n Shake locations. “If there was a restaurant nearby, I would definitely eat there right away!” one person remarked.

However, not everyone was sold on the price. Some users found it a bit steep, questioning whether $17.76 was really a discount. One commenter quipped, “You’re going to need a home equity loan to do that at Five Guys.” The price point sparked discussions about the value compared to other fast-food chains, with some pointing out how many more locations of Five Guys are available compared to Steak ‘n Shake.

Steak ‘n Shake, which has closed around 200 locations in recent years as part of a restructuring effort, is also promoting its Patriot Milkshakes for just $2.50 through 2026. Back in March, they announced the viral success of their Patriot Shake, adorned with patriotic sprinkles. Meanwhile, Five Guys has yet to publicly comment on this recent promotion but is currently featuring a limited-edition blackberry milkshake.
