Former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele likened President-elect Trump's return to the White House on Tuesday to opening “Pandora's Box of Hell.”
“He can't be president of America. He has to be President Putin. He has to be President Orbán. And it's not about America. So we as a country are trying to figure out if this is really the case. We have to decide how it ends,” Steele told Nicole Wallace on MSNBC's “Deadline: The White House.”
“Yes, I said 'done,'” he continued. “Because opening this Pandora's box of hell and expecting people to realize the American Dream isn't going to make things better. It's because Donald Trump is saying, 'Well, we're not going to do that. You're slowly being stripped away from people because you decided not to.'' Just like your last name, you shouldn't be here. ”
Trump's election victory and impending return to the White House has upset his critics and Democrats, who also lost their Senate majority last month. Many left-wing leaders are encouraging their supporters to prepare for a second Trump administration.
Following Trump's election victory, prominent Democratic congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York said in an Instagram livestream, “I am here to bring to the surface what we are all collectively going through. “I'm not there,” he said.
“Reality is set up for us,” Steele said on an appearance on MSNBC. “People need to accept it for what it is and understand: [you’re going to] Do you just bend over and leave it alone? [you’re] in some way [going to] We stand up and say, “You know what?'' This is not what we want, because this is not who we are. ”
The Hill has reached out to Trump's transition team for comment.
