Aaron Rodgers Returns to Starting Lineup for Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers are set to welcome back quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who will start against the Buffalo Bills this Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET at Acrisure Stadium. This is, honestly, a big boost for the team.
Rodgers, who is 41, missed last week’s tight 31-28 loss to the Chicago Bears due to an injury in his non-throwing wrist. Although he was eager for a chance to face his old rival, the coaching staff decided to rest him in that game.
Head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that Rodgers participated fully in Friday’s practice and won’t be listed as injured for the upcoming match against the Bills.
Rodgers had sustained the injury during the Steelers’ 34-12 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals two weeks ago, leading to Mason Rudolph stepping in for him against the Bears. In that game, Rudolph had a decent performance, completing 24 of 31 passes for 171 yards, along with one touchdown and an interception.
Rodgers’ return is particularly important given the Steelers’ position. The Baltimore Ravens just lost 32-14 to the Bengals, leaving them at a tie of 6-6. As it stands, the Steelers are at 6-5, and a win against the Bills could push them into the top spot in the AFC North.
Winning this game is crucial for the Steelers, as their most likely path to the playoffs hinges on claiming the division championship. It’s interesting how one game can affect the whole season, right?
As for Rodgers, he’s had a solid first season with the Steelers, completing 66.4% of his passes for a total of 1,969 yards, 19 touchdowns, and seven interceptions so far. Also, Tomlin mentioned that star wide receiver DK Metcalf, who has been dealing with an ankle injury, is expected to play as well.
