Steelers Call Off Fan Event in Paris Due to Ongoing Rioting in France, NFL Confirms Game Will Proceed

Steelers Cancel Fan Event in Paris Amid Unrest

The Pittsburgh Steelers have decided to call off a fan event in Paris just ahead of the NFL game scheduled for October 25 at the Stade de France. This decision comes as the city faces ongoing violent protests and looting.

According to a statement provided to Outkick, the team announced the cancellation of the Steelers House fan event that was supposed to take place this weekend.

“In light of recent events in the Bastille neighborhood and after thorough consideration, we believe it’s best not to proceed with the planned Steelers House fan event in Paris,” the club stated.

However, the NFL is moving forward with Sunday’s game. They express confidence that everything will proceed smoothly, even with the tensions surrounding the stadium.

“Preparations for the NFL events and the game at the Stade de France are proceeding as planned for next Sunday,” the NFL confirmed in a statement issued this week.

“We’re working closely with local authorities and partners regarding operational and security matters. Regular updates are being provided to the two teams. So far, there have been no disruptions affecting league sites,” the statement continued.

This game is particularly significant for the NFL, marking the first time it will host a game in France, though the league has previously played multiple games in the UK and Mexico as part of its global outreach efforts.

Yet, skepticism about playing in Paris lingers. Dani Watt, the wife of Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt, openly questioned the wisdom of keeping the game scheduled amid the escalating chaos in the city. “Can someone explain how this makes sense?” Watt posted on social media.

In response to the civil unrest, the NFL has announced plans for reinforced security measures for the game.

“Our top priority is the safety of the teams, fans, and everyone involved in this event,” NFL executive Peter O’Reilly stated on Tuesday. “We’re being extremely vigilant in our planning, hour by hour, and collaborating closely with both teams.”

O’Reilly also expressed confidence that the event would not negatively affect local resources, adding, “We’re committed to ensuring that we won’t deplete resources adversely in conjunction with this game.”
