Aaron Rodgers’ Impact on NFL General Managers

Signing Aaron Rodgers has had contrasting effects on the general managers of his previous teams.

Following a busy offseason, Steelers GM Omar Khan received a three-year contract extension on Thursday.

It’s yet to be seen how Khan will influence the team moving forward, especially since current Jets GM Joe Douglas was let go midway through last season. Meanwhile, Khan’s leadership is making waves in Pittsburgh.

Rodgers’ performance will significantly shape the Steelers’ future, but Khan has also executed some bold moves.

This week, Pittsburgh acquired Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey, tight end Jonnu Smith, and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, trading their fifth pick for the seventh pick in the draft.

Additionally, the Steelers traded wide receiver George Pickens to the Cowboys and secured DK Metcalf from the Seahawks in a separate deal.

“Omar and his team have done an incredible job building rosters through the NFL draft, strategic trades, and free agency over the past three years,” said Steelers President Art Rooney II. “We look forward to continuing this trend and achieving more success on the field.”

Khan was appointed as general manager in 2022 but has been with the franchise for 25 seasons, previously holding the role of vice president for soccer and business operations.

“I want to thank Art Rooney II for his support,” Khan shared. “We’ve built a championship roster and are eager for the 2025 season. Our aim is to bring another Super Bowl to Pittsburgh and our incredible fans.”

With a challenging 10-7 record last season that ended in the first round of the playoffs, the Steelers are seeking improvement.

Despite five playoff appearances since their last victory during the 2016-17 season, the team is hopeful that 41-year-old Rodgers can lead them to success.

Rodgers had a tough full season with the Jets, ending with a 5-12 record in 2024-25.
