Le’Veon Bell Critiques Steelers’ New Coach Choice
Le’Veon Bell, a former standout with the Pittsburgh Steelers, expressed his dissatisfaction over the team’s recent decision to name Mike McCarthy as the new head coach, following Mike Tomlin’s resignation earlier this month.
The Steelers confirmed McCarthy’s hiring on Saturday. Before this, he had coaching stints with the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys. He parted ways with Dallas after managing three successful seasons (12-5 records in 2021, 2022, and 2023) along with a disappointing 7-10 season in 2024 and remained inactive during the 2025 season.
While McCarthy does bring a history of Super Bowl success to Pittsburgh, Bell had some sharp predictions for the upcoming 2026 season. He tweeted, “4-13 coming…but hey, at least Mike Tomlin isn’t the Steelers coach anymore, right?”
Tomlin had been at the helm of the Steelers since 2007, taking over from Bill Cowher, who coached the team from 1992 to 2006. Under Tomlin’s leadership, the Steelers secured one Super Bowl title in 2008 and remarkably never had a losing season, holding a record of 193 wins, 114 losses, and 2 ties.
In a farewell statement, Tomlin reflected on his time with the organization, stating, “This organization has been a huge part of my life for many years, and it has been a true honor to lead this team. We are deeply grateful to Art Rooney II and the late Ambassador Rooney for their trust and support….” He continued, expressing his appreciation for Steelers fans and acknowledging the unique privilege of coaching in Pittsburgh.
As the Steelers look forward, they have several pressing issues to tackle in the offseason, starting with the quarterback situation. There’s still uncertainty about whether Aaron Rodgers, who isn’t contracted until 2026, will choose to play under McCarthy again or decide to retire instead.
