Steelers Struggle Against Bills, Fans Express Frustration
The Pittsburgh Steelers faced a disappointing defeat against the Buffalo Bills, losing 26-7 on Sunday. Undoubtedly, the frustrated fans made their feelings clear during the game, calling out for head coach Mike Tomlin’s resignation.
Tomlin, a seasoned coach at 53 years old, responded thoughtfully when asked about the crowd’s dissatisfaction. “Generally, I agree with them on this point of view: Football is our game, and we’re in the sports entertainment business. So if you’re rooting for the Steelers, making them happy is about winning. When they’re not winning, it’s not fun,” he shared during a news conference on Tuesday.
“I respect that because anyone who’s been in this business understands that. I share the frustrations and understand what makes this job work. And winning is what makes this job work,” he added.
Currently, both the Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens are tied for the top of the AFC North at 6-6, though it’s hard to say either team truly looks like a contender. The Steelers have lost five out of their last seven games, which has led to a rapid decline from their earlier strong lead in the division.
Things seemed promising at first, with the Steelers starting the season strong at 4-1. Meanwhile, the Ravens were struggling at 1-5, and the Bengals were faltering after losing Joe Burrow. However, the Steelers’ route to the playoffs now feels increasingly uncertain.
In the recent game against the Bills, the Steelers had a narrow lead of 7-3 at halftime. Things quickly went downhill, especially after a devastating play from Bills edge rusher Joey Bosa. He forced a fumble on Aaron Rodgers, leading to a touchdown for the Bills, which turned the tide of the game.
The Steelers’ offense struggled to regain momentum after that point, and their recent poor performance has only intensified the crowd’s discontent—a sentiment that Tomlin seems to resonate with.
With Tomlin at the helm since 2007, he holds the title of the longest-serving head coach in the NFL, amassing a record of 189-113-2 over his 304 games. The Steelers will aim to lift their fans’ spirits in a crucial matchup against the Ravens on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
