Shedeur Sanders is arguably not the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but he is definitely the most newsworthy name in the lead pool.
Previously, it was thought to be rock because it was a second quarterback and a top five pick, so smoke comes out of the mock draft universe where Sanders can roll the board, opening up the possibility that the Pittsburgh Steelers would pick him with the first pick at No. 21.
Todd McShay, one of the most respected NFL Draft experts, believes Jackson Dart will be chosen before Sanders.
McShay predicts DART will be chosen by the Saints of New Orleans at No. 9.
It may sound like a stretch of Sanders falling outside the top 20 from a potential selection of top 3, but there’s enough logic enough for one sportsbook to install the Steelers as a favorite to pick Sanders.
Draftkings Sportsbook lists Steelers as a +190 favorite to choose Sanders, just before Browns (+200) and Giants (+215).
The saint, once one of his favourites to land Sanders, drifted to +550 odds.
The BetMgm Sportsbook has Steelers and Browns joint favorites at +250.

The NFL Draft odds are notoriously unstable, and with the news and sound bits from experts like McShay moving significantly, it’s no surprise to see the market for polarizing players like Sanders shift dramatically in lead-up and dramatically transform into round one.
At this point, it appears that Sanders can land anywhere, but one thing I feel safe to predict is that this is not the last time I saw his odds shift before 8pm on Thursday.
