Steelers part-owner describes the attempt to acquire Aaron Rodgers as a ‘complicated matter’

The arrival of May has left Aaron Rodgers still a free agent. For some time now, he has been in discussion with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but according to Thomas Tull, part of the Steelers ownership, the situation is “more complicated” than it appears. In an interview on CNBC’s “Power Lunch,” Tull explained, “I’m here to talk about AI. It’s a more intricate issue than artificial intelligence.”

Currently, the Steelers have three quarterbacks on their roster: Mason Rudolph, Skyler Thompson, and sixth-round draft pick Will Howard. With Russell Wilson having moved to the New York Giants, the Steelers emerged as a potential new home for the four-time MVP, especially as they look for a starting quarterback for the upcoming 2025 season.

Interestingly, Rodgers hasn’t ruled out retirement but seems to be keeping his options open. “I’m open to anything and I’m not attached to anything. I still have the potential to quit, but for now, my focus is on my personal life,” he remarked during his April appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, adding, “There’s still a conversation.”

Rodgers mentioned, “I’m at another stage in my life. I’m 41. I’m in a serious relationship. I have something off-field that requires attention. I’ve made a personal commitment, and I’m uncertain about what my future entails after last year.”

It’s hard to say whether Rodgers will choose to continue playing football or decide to retire after two decades in the game.

Last season with the New York Jets, Rodgers threw for 3,987 yards, recording 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions across 17 games. Adding to the drama, regardless of who takes the start for the Steelers in their first game, they will not have George Pickens as a receiver since he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys.
