“It seems like all the options are on the table” about taking a quarterback when the Steelers are getting a pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on a 21-era pick on Thursday, especially if Signal-Caller is the Shedeur Sanders.
That’s according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Who detailed Monday How Pittsburgh’s draft plans are evolving, and why “pressure” is building a place their first round picks are concerned, especially as key free agency target Aaron Rodgers hasn’t solidified his future yet.
“The Steelers had no plans to draft a quarterback in round 1, but they didn’t expect Sanders to fall from the top 10. Now all the options appear to be on the table, just in case the chefs have the option to draft Sanders.”
Additionally, the Steelers are one of the team’s groups after the Titans. Essentially, it’s a rock to draft Miami QB Come Ward, and “I want to deal with the quarterback quickly,” according to Shefatter on the first overall pick.
There are also problems Pittsburgh’s remaining five picks after the first round And how does this affect plans that potentially rise or trade down?
Pittsburgh has no second rounder after shipping the pick to Seattle in March as part of a deal with wide receiver DK Metcalf.
The move left the franchise “heading towards the early round of the shorthand draft,” as the second-highest pick came in 83rd overall in the third round.
Due to the gap between the first and third picks, Pittsburgh’s “choice at No. 21” could occur again until the second day.
The Browns, Giants and Saints are all Nos. They are one of the top quarterbacks of Needy teams in this year’s drafts at 2, 3 and 9.
As part of his draft preparation, the Steelers were busy getting to know Sanders, the 23-year-old son of Pro Football Hall of Fame Deion Sanders, and visited him earlier this month.
The team continues to explore options in that position as Rodgers, 41, deals with the challenges of his personal life, while still remain undecided in the next step.
The 2024 NFL Draft begins Thursday in Green Bay. The Steelers will appear on the watch with pick numbers 21, 83, 124, 156, 185, and 229.
