Stefanik reaffirms her description of Mamdani as a 'jihadist' even though Trump disagrees

Stefanik Disagrees with Trump Over Mayor-elect Mamdani

Representative Elise Stefanik from New York expressed her disagreement with President Donald Trump regarding Mayor-elect Zoran Mamdani during an interview on Monday. She referred to Mamdani as a “jihadist.”

This came in light of Trump’s differing views about Mamdani’s character. Stefanik conveyed her concerns about Mamdani’s potential impact on New York City and the broader state, especially as New York City has a significant Jewish population. She highlighted a troubling rise in anti-Semitism, saying, “I strongly believe that Zoran Mamdani will be disastrous for the people of New York City, and indeed for the people of New York State.”

Stefanik continued, noting Mamdani’s allegedly socialist stance, which she claims includes efforts to defund the police and increase taxes. She recalled his associations with individuals involved in past terrorist acts, stating, “I stand by my statement. He is a jihadist, and this is an area where President Trump and I disagree.”

Stefanik’s Gubernatorial Aspirations

Amid these political tensions, Stefanik recently entered the New York gubernatorial race, aiming to challenge the current Democratic Governor, Kathy Hochul. Meanwhile, Trump met with Mamdani on Friday, where he addressed the backlash against Stefanik’s remarks, suggesting that political campaigning often leads to heated rhetoric. He described Mamdani as a reasonable individual who genuinely wants to improve New York.

“We have one thing in common,” Trump mentioned about Mamdani, celebrating his recent electoral success against formidable opponents. The conversation reportedly touched on important topics like housing and economic development.

In contrast, during an interview, Mamdani labeled Trump a “fascist,” underscoring the ongoing ideological divide between them.

Both Mamdani’s campaign and the White House did not offer comments in response to requests for clarification on these matters.
