Stefon Diggs finds payback against the Bills with an outstanding performance for the Patriots

Stefon Diggs had a standout game on Sunday night, leading the Patriots to a 23-20 victory over the Bills at Highmark Stadium, marking his first return to Buffalo since his trade in 2024.

In this matchup against his former team, Diggs shone brightly, making 10 catches for 146 yards and handing the Bills their first loss of the season.

After the game, Diggs expressed to NBC’s Melissa Stark that his impressive performance was “100%” personal.

“I definitely have love for those guys, and I still maintain a good relationship with them. But, you know, I really love the game and want to prove something—both to myself and to them—every time I step onto the field,” he said.

His longest play of the night came in the third quarter when quarterback Drake May connected with him on a 32-yard pass, setting up a key moment just five yards from the end zone.

The win appeared to resonate with Diggs. “It’s loud and quiet for me,” he reflected, noting his experience with the crowd’s fluctuating emotions. “They might love you one day and hate you the next, but I respect it. I used to be part of this. I’m not anymore, but I still care about it,” he added.

During his four seasons with the Bills, Diggs racked up 445 receptions, totaling 5,372 yards and scoring 37 touchdowns. In a pre-game interview, he described the return as “nostalgic.” “It’s a significant moment for me. I really care for this team and its fans, and I’ve been looking forward to this week,” he mentioned.

After a brief stint with the Texans, which ended due to a season-ending ACL injury in 2024, Diggs signed a three-year, $69 million contract with the Patriots in March.

As he walked onto the field, the crowd responded with boos, although he was met warmly by former Buffalo teammates.

Coach Shawn McDermott was among those from the Bills who welcomed Diggs back with a hug, emphasizing the camaraderie they once shared.
