Diggs Set for Emotional Return to Buffalo

This Sunday marks an “emotional” return to Buffalo for Stefon Diggs.

Reflecting on his four seasons with the Bills ahead of the high-profile matchup against the New England Patriots, the 31-year-old receiver shared his thoughts about stepping onto the field as an opponent at Highmark Stadium.

“It’s a bit sentimental for me, obviously. I’ve spent a lot of time there,” Diggs mentioned in an interview. “I know the staff and the people there well. Those I have relationships with—I’m looking forward to seeing them play. It’s definitely going to be emotional.”

He added, “I want to keep my focus on the game, but it’s my first time going back. The atmosphere will be electrifying. I’ve been part of it for so long, including before I officially joined the team.”

Diggs was acquired by the Bills before the 2020 season via a trade with the Minnesota Vikings.

That inaugural season was a standout for him, achieving career highs in receptions with 127 and yards at 1,535.

Although Diggs enjoyed success in Buffalo, the magic faded following a playoff loss to Cincinnati in January 2023.

Problems intensified over the summer when he was absent from the first day of mandatory minicamp, reportedly dissatisfied with his “role” in the offense.

Despite the issues, Diggs recorded 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns in the 2023 season.

In April 2024, he was traded to Houston, marking the end of his stint in Buffalo. However, his time with the Texans was brief, as he suffered a torn ACL midway through that year.

Now with the Patriots, he signed a three-year, $63.5 million deal, making him a primary target for second-year quarterback Drake Maye.

Diggs, who is also looking forward to becoming a father with girlfriend Cardi B, acknowledged that Buffalo still holds a special place in his heart.

“It’s exciting, but I don’t want to get overly enthusiastic. It’s a different game, but importantly, it’s a divisional matchup,” he said. “I have a lot of respect and love for that city, its fans, and the players.”

In his four games with the Patriots so far, Diggs has recorded 19 receptions for 213 yards. The Patriots will face the unbeaten Bills, who currently hold a 2-2 record, this Sunday.
