If this rumor holds any water, NBA fans will definitely want to tune in to the three-point contest at next year’s NBA All-Star Weekend.
Stephen Curry, widely regarded as perhaps the best shooter in basketball history.
Damian Lillard, the reigning champion, has taken home this title three times.
And there’s more to it.
After a close finals where Lillard edged out Devin Booker and Con Knuppel with 29 points (Booker scored 27 and Knuppel 17), Lillard posted a screenshot of a conversation with Curry. It’s about the upcoming tournament season.
“Next year…me, you, Klay, Book, and four more real shooters…” Lillard hinted.
“Absolutely, I’m in. I know Klay will join if I ask, and we can make it work,” Curry responded.
If they have their way, Klay Thompson and Booker could both compete in the next event.
Now that’s what you call star power.
Curry has made a staggering 4,233 three-point shots during his career, holding the record for most in NBA history. He changed the game, making teams defend him well beyond the three-point line. He has the top six seasons for three-pointers made, including the record of 402 during the 2015-16 season— the only player to ever surpass 400 threes in a single season.
If Curry is the “shooting batsman,” then Thompson is definitely his partner in crime.
Having teamed up on the Warriors for 13 seasons from 2011 to 2024, they are often considered the best shooting backcourt in NBA history, racking up four championships in eight years while setting numerous long-range shooting records.
Curry, Thompson (4th with 2,837), and Lillard (5th with 2,804) are among the top five all-time three-point shooters in the league. James Harden, a guard for the Cavaliers, sits second on the list with 3,318.
Looking ahead, Phoenix is set to host the NBA All-Star Game in 2027, and while Booker’s health will determine his participation, he’s likely to be there. As for Thompson, well, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him back on the floor with Curry given their history.
Whether all four of them will play remains to be seen, especially considering James Harden is also among the top shooters, but if they do, it’s bound to be a tournament that fans won’t want to miss.
