Steph Curry gives a strong indication as the Warriors are ready to bring in Al Horford.

Steph Curry may have let slip some news regarding the Warriors.

The star point guard hinted that Golden State is looking to sign Al Horford, a free agent from the Celtics.

“He’s a champion and a great player,” Curry mentioned Thursday during the Celebrity Golf Championship in Lake Tahoe. “When… when all of that happens, I’ll talk about it.”

Horford, now 39, is leaving the Celtics after four seasons. Boston’s president of basketball operations, Brad Stevens, considers a reunion “very unlikely.”

The Warriors are exploring upgrades this offseason after their recent playoff exit to the Timberwolves in the Western Conference semi-finals. This comes after Curry had to deal with a left hamstring injury during Game 1.

While Horford is a free agent available for signing, Curry’s cautious statement hints at the team’s ongoing uncertainty about restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga.

The Warriors have the right to match any offers made for Kuminga, the seventh pick in the 2021 draft. There’s also the possibility they could trade him in a sign-and-trade deal.

Golden State aims for a solid young player and a first-round pick in any trade scenarios. Addressing the Kuminga situation could clarify their financial situation before Horford potentially joins the team.

As Curry noted, adding Horford would bring valuable championship experience, plus his three-point shooting aligns well with today’s NBA style.

Last season, he averaged 9.0 points and 6.2 rebounds in about 27.7 minutes per game, shooting 36.3% from beyond the arc.

Throughout his career—with stints in Atlanta, Oklahoma City, and Philadelphia—Horford has averaged 12.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.

Bringing Horford on board would mark Golden State’s first significant move this summer, which has, so far, been quite understated.

The team also saw big man Kevin Rooney leave for the Pelicans.

The Western Conference has other strong contenders too, like the champion Thunder who retain their core players, and the revamped Rockets with Kevin Durant now on their roster.
