Intensifying Rivalry Between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese
It seems like a boxing match might be the next step for Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.
The intensifying rivalry between Indiana Fever stars Clark and her loud Chicago Sky counterpart Reese took a turn recently. After a particularly physical foul on Clark, tensions escalated during their game on Saturday.
Clark and her team put on an impressive performance, defeating Reese’s squad with a score of 93-58 in a game they clearly dominated.
During the third quarter, Clark committed a hard foul against Reese while attempting to score. This angered Clark, especially since the referee didn’t call a foul on Reese for pushing her teammate, Aliya Boston.
Soon after, Reese confronted Clark directly.
On a recent episode of ESPN’s “First Take,” host Molly Qerim asked Stephen A. Smith about the ongoing drama between the two players, particularly whether the media coverage was influenced by race.
“It’s not about black and white. It’s about that white player and that black player,” Smith stated. “Why? Because of their history before joining the WNBA. If Angel Reese hadn’t reacted the way she did towards Caitlin Clark, perhaps LSU and Reese would have kept their distance, bearing in mind how Clark had interacted with her own opponents during the journey to the Final Four.”
So, who exactly suggested that the rivalry between Clark and Reese had racial undertones? It feels kind of strange, honestly.
