Smith Challenges Crockett Over Recent Comments
SiriusXM host Stephen A. Smith recently accused Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett of avoiding his show after she referred to him as “synonymous with modern-day Django.” This came after her appearance on his show, where she made the comment on Instagram, comparing herself to a fictional character who embodies the struggle of black slaves.
In a twist, former CNN host Don Lemon also criticized Smith for his remarks about Crockett, prompting Smith to extend an invitation for her to join his team. He expressed curiosity about why she hadn’t accepted his offer, considering the blunt nature of his inquiries. “Why don’t you sit down and talk to me? Are you afraid of what questions I’ll ask?” he questioned.
Smith added, “I’m not really sure what’s holding her back. But if you’re going to say something like that about someone, you should perhaps address it directly.”
This wasn’t the first time Smith and Crockett had been at odds. After facing backlash for his critique of her language regarding President Donald Trump, he apologized during a previous broadcast on “Straight Shooter with Stephen A.” He acknowledged that his comments might have fueled Trump’s attacks on her, stating, “I regret that my words unintentionally contributed to a negative dialogue.”
Reflecting on the situation, Smith remarked, “I see that Trump tends to amplify conflicts like this, especially towards Black women. I’m not comfortable with that, and I respect what Crockett is striving for.” His respect for her efforts was clear as he stated, “I appreciate her fight for what she believes in.”
Responding to the earlier comments, Crockett mentioned during a live stream that she felt “hurt” and believed Smith was reluctant to engage in a genuine conversation. Although she has participated in various interviews since announcing her Senate campaign, she has yet to appear on Smith’s show.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, Smith remains critical of Democratic strategies in relation to President Trump, often challenging their rhetoric and positions.
Crockett’s office had not provided any comment regarding the ongoing discourse at the time of this report.
