Stephen A. Smith Critiques Gavin Newsom’s Comments on Trump
On Wednesday, SiriusXM host Stephen A. Smith took aim at California Governor Gavin Newsom for his remarks about President Donald Trump during the World Economic Forum in Switzerland.
While in Davos, Newsom labeled Trump a “tyrannosaurus,” suggesting that dealing with him is like being prey, saying, “You mate with him or he will devour you.” Smith expressed his thoughts on this during his show, noting that while it’s acceptable for Newsom to voice criticisms at home, airing such views abroad might not sit well with everyone.
“Respectfully, what do you do? You are the governor of California, United States of America,” Smith questioned. “Why are you in Davos, Switzerland, talking to people and saying negative things about the president of the United States?”
Smith played clips of Newsom’s criticisms regarding Trump’s speech at Davos. He stated that he didn’t mind Newsom discussing his feelings in the U.S. but found it odd to do so in another country, in front of leaders who oppose Trump. “Say whatever you want to say here as governor from across the aisle in any American state on American soil. Fine,” Smith remarked, emphasizing that Americans should present a united front when abroad.
In a related context, Smith also mentioned Newsom’s avoidance of the question about whether boys can become girls, indicating that such issues shouldn’t be linked to the Democratic Party. “I’m telling you, you’re going to lose the midterm elections,” he warned.
In another instance, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel used a Christmas message on Britain’s Channel 4 to similarly criticize Trump’s America, expressing confusion about the situation in the country from his perspective.
