Stephen A. Smith Critiques Tiger Woods’ Recent Arrest
Stephen A. Smith, the ESPN commentator, didn’t hold back after Tiger Woods was arrested following a rollover crash in Florida last week. Woods, who’s known for his legendary golf career, faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence and causing property damage, and has since said he will step away from golf to seek treatment.
On a recent episode of “First Take,” Smith expressed his thoughts on Woods’ situation. “It’s an invasion of his privacy,” Smith mentioned Woods’ concerns about keeping his personal life under wraps. But he emphasized, “We don’t care about your privacy right now. You were behind the wheel of a car while inebriated. That’s what truly matters.” He added that the focus should be on Woods’ behavior rather than his personal affairs.
This isn’t Woods’ first brush with the law regarding his driving. He had a prior DUI arrest on Jupiter Island in 2017 when he was found asleep at the wheel. Additionally, he was involved in a serious crash in Los Angeles in 2021, which resulted in severe leg injuries and required surgery.
In the recent arrest, police found hydrocodone tablets in Woods’ pocket, raising further concerns about his health and choices. Smith was frank about it: “If you’re a billionaire and still reluctant to hire a driver, something’s off. What are you trying to hide? It makes you wonder.”
Woods has committed to taking the necessary time for personal and professional recovery, vowing to emerge healthier and more focused.
Smith seemed to sum it up well, saying, “This is his third intoxicated driving incident. All we really want to hear is assurance that he won’t be behind the wheel while drunk again. That’s it.”
His closing thoughts were a call for Woods to take care of himself. “You need to think about the potential harm not just to yourself but to others. It’s a serious matter, and, honestly, you’re lucky no one got hurt.”
