Stephen A. Smith left speechless after Monica McNutt slams him on Caitlin Clark comments
Few things happen enough to leave Stephen A. Smith speechless, but ESPN basketball commentator Monica McNutt did just that Monday morning when the news turned to Chennedy Carter’s flagrant foul on Kaitlyn Clark.
There has been a great deal of lamentation about the way Clark was treated as a rookie in the WNBA, with some making the ridiculous claim that rather than treating her as a competitor, opponents should “thank” her for bringing more attention to the sport.
When Stephen A. commented on his commitment to promoting women’s sports, McNutt jumped on it.
Stephen A. Smith: “Who talks more about the WNBA, about women, about women’s sports than First Take?”
Monica McNutt: “With all due respect, Stephen A., with your platform, you could have done this three years ago if you wanted to.”

Honestly, spot the lie. You may think Smith has been really committed to promoting women’s sports, but a year ago First Take There would never have been an entire segment on the WNBA on the show, which has traditionally focused only on the NFL and NBA with a smattering of other sports but rarely talked about women’s basketball.
There is a lot of truth in what McNutt says. more His peers’ attention on women’s sports doesn’t make him a champion, not even the 1 percent of airtime he got before Caitlin Clark came along. Surely there’s a bit of historical revisionism going on that’s what’s made Smith what he is.
