Stephen A. Smith Shares Hard Advice for Jasmine Crockett

SiriusXM Host Critiques Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s Approach

On Monday’s episode of “Straight Shooter,” SiriusXM host Stephen A. Smith reiterated his concerns regarding Democratic Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett, while also expressing his respect for her and a desire to see her succeed.

In response to past criticism, Smith discussed Crockett’s remarks about President Trump, which she described as “disrespectful” and unhelpful for voters. He shared his thoughts in a video on his YouTube channel, stating that, while he finds her intelligent, he believes she is overly focused on appealing to “the streets,” which he views as counterproductive.

“What I meant to convey is that this educated, accomplished Black woman representing over 750,000 people is out there using street language!” Smith explained. “That’s fine in some contexts, but when negotiating, how many people really use that kind of language effectively? Can you bring that to the Capitol and expect it to resonate?”

He continued, mentioning how Republican leaders are pushing for Crockett to be highlighted in media coverage because they see it as advantageous for their agenda. “They understand it helps them politically,” Smith emphasized. “I appreciate her passion and bravery, but isn’t winning the ultimate goal? Shouldn’t we strive for that?”

Crockett has previously attracted attention for her provocative statements about Republicans, including labeling Trump a “wannabe Hitler” and mockingly referring to Texas Governor Greg Abbott as “Governor Hot Wheels” in a speech earlier this year.

During a separate discussion in May on “The Stephen A. Smith Show,” he questioned her tactic of firmly opposing Trump without offering constructive legislative alternatives. “When she says she’s against everything Trump does, is that really productive?” Smith asked. “Isn’t our responsibility to find a way to work together, especially when the other party holds the presidency?”
