Stephen A. Smith: Trump 'annihilation' of Harris ‘a referendum on the Democratic Party'

Reflecting on President-elect Trump's victory over Vice President Harris this week, sports commentator Stephen A. Smith said “annihilation” is a larger call for “a referendum on the Democratic Party.”

“A lot of people think of it as, 'You know what? [Trump] I won little by little in various places. “I don't want to hear that,'' Smith said Thursday night on Fox News' “Hannity.''

“He won, and he won in a completely convincing way. The results are such that I think we have to look at this election as a referendum on the Democratic Party.”

Mr. Trump's decisive victory in this election has further intensified the debate about the future of the Democratic Party. Strategists and operatives say the Harris campaign relies too much on old strategies that won't work in 2024.

“America is saying, 'We don't feel where you are.' We don't feel where you are going. We don't want any part of it either. We don't have it.' They made their choice and we have to accept it,” he added.

Smith has hinted at a run for the White House in the past, but said he would only consider launching a presidential campaign if there was a “legitimate chance” of victory.

Smith told ABC's “The View” on Thursday that if he were to run for president, he would run as an independent, “because I don't like either side and I'm not going to be paid to buy them. ” he said.

“Whatever it is, I'm going to do what I believe is in the best interest of the American people. And I'm going to make my decision and follow it.”
