Trump’s Tribute at the 250th Anniversary Parade
During the 250th anniversary parade, President Donald Trump took time to commend American soldiers for their sacrifices. However, late-night hosts Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel poked fun at the event, with Kimmel describing it as “boring” and likening it to “the $50 million version of a five-year-old showing off his Hot Wheels collection.” He mentioned that the event featured a flyover and a convoy, but the excitement seemed notably absent.
Colbert chimed in on the Late Show, noting the parade coincided with Father’s Day, adding humorously, “Dad got what he wanted. No one came to Trump’s big stupid birthday parade.” He also claimed that while the White House estimated around 250,000 attendees, footage suggested a much smaller crowd, stating, “They must be really good at hide and seek. MAGA stands for making American grass again.”
Kimmel empathized with the troops who, he felt, were forced to march past empty bleachers, implying that it wasn’t right. It seemed there was a lack of connection in the hosts’ minds between the military’s significance and the context of the parade, which might have been mistaken for a birthday celebration.
Despite the criticisms from the late-night hosts, Trump made a point to honor the men and women who served in the military. “Tonight we assert the unwavering certainty that American soldiers are there with every call to duty or danger,” Trump said. He emphasized their readiness to face challenges, conveying that the U.S. military has always been backed by “the grace of Almighty God and the iron will of the US Army.”
