Stephen King Anticipates Backlash Against Trump Supporters
Liberal author Stephen King believes that in the years to come, there will be a significant cultural backlash against President Donald Trump, potentially causing some of his supporters to distance themselves from him.
In a recent interview with the Sunday Times, King defended his vocal criticism of Trump on social media. He mentioned that, while he understands some of his fans might align with Trump, he feels a responsibility to express his views. “It’s like you’re being asked, ‘Which side are you on?'” he remarked.
King went on to suggest that future history books would depict Trump unfavorably, implying that many who supported him might eventually claim they never did. “There are stories about home runs we’ve all heard of,” King said. He reflected on the idea that decades later, people will deny their voting choices, similar to how some recount sporting events years after they happened.
He referenced his 1979 book, Dead Zone, which eerily predicted aspects of Trump’s presidency, adding that people were skeptical it could become reality. “Today, nobody would have believed we’d have armed agents in the streets,” he said, comparing the current scene to a dystopian setting.
A White House spokesperson, Abigail Jackson, countered by stating that King, given his background in fiction, might be missing the reality of the situation. King, who has a large following on social media, expressed confidence that Americans would reject Trump in future elections, predicting that Trump’s actions would lead to regrets among his supporters.
“Despite any efforts to control the upcoming elections, people are aware that Trump is turning American aspirations into nightmares,” he stated. King has been consistently critical of Trump and the Republican Party, previously drawing parallels between the treatment of immigrant families and elements of his horror fiction.
